The Black Nonprofit Group is a nonprofit capacity-building organization that helps strengthen nonprofit organizations through education, technical assistance, networking, resources, assessments, and strategic support. Our goal is not simply to help organizations find grants. We help organizations build the infrastructure needed to successfully manage funding, programs, boards, finances, partnerships, and long-term growth.

The Black Nonprofit Group was created to help address these capacity gaps while strengthening organizations that provide important services throughout our communities. No. The Black Nonprofit Group's mission centers the needs and experiences of Black-led, Black-founded, grassroots, and historically under-resourced organizations, but membership is not based solely on an individual's race. Eligibility is based on the appropriate membership category and the organization's or individual's interest in nonprofit development, capacity building, community impact, partnership, or professional service.

Black-led and Black-founded nonprofits are a central focus of our mission, particularly because of documented disparities in access to nonprofit resources and philanthropic opportunities. However, The Black Nonprofit Group may also provide education, community programming, networking opportunities, technical resources, and collaborative opportunities that are available to a broader range of nonprofit and community organizations. Individual programs, grants, scholarships, or special initiatives may have separate eligibility requirements.

For purposes of our programming and organizational focus, Black-led generally describes an organization in which Black individuals hold meaningful leadership, decision-making, governance, executive, or founding roles. Specific programs may establish additional eligibility criteria when necessary.

The Black Nonprofit Group is primarily a capacity-building organization, not a traditional foundation. When funding is available, we may provide small grants, sponsorships, scholarships, in-kind assistance, or other forms of support consistent with our charitable mission. Funding opportunities are not guaranteed as a benefit of membership and may require a separate application and eligibility review.

No. Membership does not guarantee funding. Our goal is to help members become stronger, more competitive, and better prepared to pursue funding opportunities. When The Black Nonprofit Group offers its own funding opportunities, those programs may have separate eligibility requirements, deadlines, scoring criteria, and funding decisions.

Membership may include access to: capacity-building education, member learning sessions, organizational assessments, resource guides and templates, grant-readiness resources, financial-readiness education, board and governance resources, networking opportunities, member-only workshops or labs, community partnerships, funding and grant opportunity information, professional service referrals, The Black Nonprofit Group resource library, and special member opportunities as they become available. Some services, consultations, workshops, or special programs may require an additional fee.

Our primary role is to educate, equip, and prepare organizations to pursue funding successfully. We may provide grant-readiness assessments, application reviews, educational workshops, funding research resources, templates, technical assistance, or referrals. Grant-writing or consulting services that go beyond standard membership benefits may be offered separately.

Capacity building means strengthening the systems behind the mission. This can include: board development, governance, financial management, budgeting, grant readiness, strategic planning, program development, policies and procedures, volunteer management, data collection, impact measurement, fundraising, communications, partnerships, compliance, and leadership development. Strong programs require strong organizations behind them.

Data helps us understand the challenges nonprofit organizations are experiencing and whether our programs are making a measurable difference. Members may periodically be asked to provide information related to organizational capacity, funding, board development, programs, participation, or outcomes. This information allows The Black Nonprofit Group to measure organizational growth, identify common nonprofit needs, improve programming, demonstrate community impact, strengthen funding requests, develop relevant workshops and resources, and advocate for additional nonprofit resources. We are committed to strengthening our impact and data-collection practices as the organization grows.

Sensitive organizational information collected through assessments, consultations, or capacity-building activities will be handled appropriately and used for legitimate organizational purposes. Aggregate information may be used to demonstrate community needs and organizational impact without unnecessarily identifying individual organizations.

Yes. Our work is grounded in equitable access to nonprofit education, resources, professional development, funding readiness, and community opportunity. The Black Nonprofit Group will continue to describe its mission and community work accurately while periodically reviewing organizational policies, eligibility requirements, and public language to ensure they remain consistent with applicable nonprofit laws and regulations.

The organization will not make unnecessary changes based on speculation. The Black Nonprofit Group will continue monitoring developments affecting charitable organizations and will review policies when actual laws, regulations, or official guidance are issued. Our commitment remains focused on strengthening nonprofit organizations and addressing documented gaps in organizational capacity and access to resources.

Yes. Businesses and professional service providers that support the nonprofit sector may participate through the appropriate business membership category. Business membership creates opportunities for education, relationship-building, visibility, collaboration, and connection with nonprofit organizations. Business membership does not guarantee contracts, referrals, endorsements, vendor selection, or access to charitable funding.

Not simply because it is a member. Charitable funds must be used in furtherance of The Black Nonprofit Group's nonprofit mission. Any program involving businesses would need clearly defined eligibility requirements and a documented charitable or community purpose.

No. Membership indicates participation in The Black Nonprofit Group network. It should not be interpreted as a guarantee, certification, legal endorsement, financial endorsement, or recommendation of an organization's programs, services, financial condition, or business practices.

The Black Nonprofit Group reserves the right to establish reasonable membership standards consistent with its bylaws, policies, charitable mission, and code of conduct. Membership may be denied, suspended, or terminated when an applicant or member fails to meet applicable requirements or engages in conduct inconsistent with the organization's standards.
